Even with artists being switched left, right, Friday, Saturday, Wild Rooster brought a Western vibe that fits all.
From starting the day with bringing my oldest to some relaxing Barn & Belle, ending the day with my other kids during Hobo Jobis, and eating English breakfast at home to take a pause, to again joining the Grote Markt with friends until the sun set and the terraces closed, the first day of Wild Rooster was a party and gathering for anyone loving country, rockabilly, and bluegrass.
Starting the day around 16:30 at the stage with Belle on the washboard and Barn with his 2-piece blue-striped suit and guitar was a great build-up to visiting Wild Rooster with kids, being able to find a spot, sitting down, and having kids with an acoustic performance that you can say “Wow!” to.
Followed up with a change of Somethingski to the fantastic Van Tastic, who has the reach of a gospel by himself, which we sadly missed out on as we were eating dinner and a big crowd formed at the Luifel stage but you can listen to him here: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5TcPdvUBkMz66CQ5XC4aqT?si=NNhQwPubSxSlEgzZGrO1ww
Even more people and crowds gathered around the time school and work ended. Hannah Juanita from the USA switched spots with Hobo Jobos, and while we missed an iconic Western singer with American lines during dinner, we went to dance to Hobo Jobos’ Dutch acoustic high tempo. Hannah will play tomorrow at 17:00 PM CEST at the Mildred Stage, so bring your Stenton for some line dancing.
After the kids were put to bed, the adults woke up to dance to the 50s French band Spunyboys, which allowed the space to be filled, and even when it was filled, to dance on the picnic tables.
The brothers Remi and Guillaume, with Eddie playing the guitar, bring back the rockabilly you know from back then. The octobass featuring awesome artwork of a spider on the back while performing the energetic show skills of balancing it on the bandmembers’ heads and balancing it high in the sky to the pompadour hairstyles made it a performance to not forget.
Overall a wonderful evening accompanied by the work of the awesome people of the surrounding bars, BBQ pitmasters, and overall fun crowd.
After the last performance, last call is around 1AM, and the terraces fully close around 2AM. Of course, there are more things to explore in The Hague, but who doesn’t want to get a good night’s rest for tomorrow’s program?
