“The jungle DNB to the early-day game graphics is great, and it’s overall a really fun game to play. I have already spent about 5 hours playing the demo.”

I’m giving Vital Shell a 5/5!
What do you get when you mix Mecha with Vampire Survivors? A really awesome game that refreshes the genre and gets you hooked for 5 bucks!
Vital Shell currently sits at 650 Overwhelmingly positive reviews at the time of writing this article.
Note that I did get a key provided from the developer, and our main company helped with the marketing; however, this article is purely written on fan base without bias, and we don’t earn a commission on copies sold.
When I first got a glimpse of this game, I knew I needed to get on this, being a Mecha, Gunpla – Gundam fan that loves these kinds of graphics and the music, I started playing the demo and got into contact with MarvinWizard, the solo developer working on his first debut game. The game is fully made in Godot, and it runs like a dream. From the weird artsy enemies to the bulky Koenig you get to play as you jump into the game, everything fits. You battle different waves of enemies throughout the level on the planet you are on, counting up to 20 waves total.
If you are unsure, the demo is still available and actually has your progress move into the full game if you want to try out the game firstly to see if it’s for you!
Multiple mechs with different stats
There are 5 mechs you can unlock when playing through the game; you will defeat a corrupted version of it once you get to the 20th wave of each planet level, with the last planet having a boss fight.
You start out with Koenig, a bulky shell that will get you through the first planet. Next to different shells, there are many upgrades throughout the waves and even some permanent things you can unlock with devotions. Each x amount of waves will grant you either a secondary weapon, special, or even gems that you can use to combine and upgrade the weapons you are holding. This all depends on the shell you are using.
Each shell has their own playthrough, and you can play all the levels with the new shell you unlock, giving you a new playthrough every time.
Get to the S rank
Everything you do within the level counts towards your final score, following the Japanese rank system. Get defeated along the way? You’ll have to settle with an F.
Focus on killing enemies and killing them fast by upping your fire rate and your damage, if your shell allows it.
Next to the per-level rank and high score, if you manage to defeat the end boss, you will be able to participate in the World Record challenge that refreshes. Can you beat the current top 3?
- 66 achievements
- Around $5 price tag
- NewGame+ Mech color customization & World Record Time Challenge
- Great music from small artists
- PSX graphics giving nostalgia
Overall the game is a great nostalgia trip, with awesome music and overall great-looking & simple graphics. It’s awesome to see what MarvinWizard has made and how it has hit the right spot in the audience and the mecha, gunpla, Gundam fanbases. Can’t wait for the next mecha game, as he has mentioned he has plans for a Mech Fantasy game. Stay up to date!
