Great Pour

The Good

  • The overview has fully changed now the game is more open world
  • Important gameplay mechanics got a revamp
  • Flow of the game is much easier instead of replaying levels on different difficulties

The Bad

  • Account linking seems to be quite buggy
  • There is some smearing and tearing on Ultra settings even in the cutscenes

Minecraft Dungeons has always been a fun game to play for me, I have been a Diablo fan, or just overall ARPG fan you could say, for years. Back when the first installment of Minecraft Dungeons came out, I still played it on my Xbox, but now I have since switched over to PC gaming on Steam. It’s awesome you can link your Microsoft account to get a special cape and to save your progress across devices. However, it didn’t work perfectly at the start and I have seen more people commenting about this. I have now had a couple of sessions and do not have this issue anymore though.

The game has revamped a lot of things such as no more camp and picking of levels, you fully play in one instance, over multiple dimensions. However, you do not need to pick levels and difficulties anymore. Next to that, the enchanting and upgrading has gotten a major overhaul.

A new threat descends upon the Overworld…

The High Council has opened rifts for Illagers to spew out in the Overworld. They roam the villages and raid them, dricing out the villagers themselves. Your mission is to take back the villages, beat the high council and find what has happened along the way.

In the Overworld, it’s quite easy to navigate with easy puzzles and quest markers on one map, next to that you can also fast travel when you discover a minecart station in the vicinity of important milestones, or the bigger cities for example.

Along the way, you get to go through one of the rifts, and discover a full new dimension.

The new dimension, the Sift brings a bunch of new mobs, enemies and terrain. While you help out the Singer, you will have to battle through these new mobs that are hostile, they are quite unique and not something you’ve seen before in Minecraft.

They will also introduce the Sift dimension to Minecraft Vanilla itself in 2027.

You will later come back here after defeating some of the high council to fully unlock it, this is done by obtaining 2 music boxes to open the big portal.

Overall the game has seen a lot of great changes with here and there some hiccups that you wouldn’t expect from a big franchise as Minecraft, however, things like account linking do seem to be fixed. Either way the rating for it still sits at Mixed reviews on Steam for players that want to play the game with WASD buttons instead of the standard genre click and pointing with your mouse to walk.

My only take here what I would love to see change is the 9,999 Emerald cap, that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me as you can hoard so much in one exploration session and  an upgrade or buying something already costs 1 to 2K emeralds.

The main story is also longer in comparison of the first game and we are of course still waiting on 2 DLCs to be dropped with the Deluxe Edition.
