Great Pour

The Good

  • The story starts off really strong
  • Combat can be as easy or hard that you like, multiple difficulties
  • Graphics and worldbuilding are breathtaking

The Bad

  • Enemies can get a bit repetetive
  • No keybinding and progress loss which is a heavy point from the community

*Note that I did get a review key provided for the game.

Crimson Moon did not have the best of launches and I wanted to wait a little bit more until there were more reviews, for you to be able to base your thoughts around that, on my end I am still playing through but can confidently say that it features a strong story and good combat.

The negative reviews mostly came out of the game not having any keybindings, which the developer is currently fixing. I had no huge issues with the main keybindings to be honest and especially playing later on with controller, those weren’t an issue to enjoy the combat.

You are Nephilim: a human-angel hybrid forged to defend humanity with supernatural powers. Fight solo or with a friend to annihilate demons and challenge brutal bosses in relentless melée combat. Rise, violent one. The prophecy is yours to fulfill.

The story starts off very strong, with a big fight between good and evil, and when good was at the winning side, something strange happened.

Graphics-wise the game really stands out, it has the darkness of Diablo and the colorfulness of Darksiders, which brings you a medieval but angelic vibe. The rot around the cities that have been taken are evil stand out as well.

One of my pet peeves was though that loot is abundant, I would walk and fight two basic enemies and basically find 3 chests and both dropped loot. I’m unsure if that changes with difficulty, but I’ve seen some high difficulty playthroughs with plenty of loot.

If the game is too hard, there are multiple difficulties you can play and you can even play the game co-op which makes it even more fun to slay demons.

For me as a non-soulslike player, I found the enemies to be quite repetitive in my playthrough, with a couple of stronger/elite enemies just being more tiresome too play as they were quite active in their combat, having to dodge 3 to 4 attacks to get 1 hit in. I know that can be entertaining with a big boss, but the elite enemies would sometimes be 5 in 2 rooms and having to clear them all out takes time where I thought the game would be a bit more high speed.

After missions you take from the  war table, you are returned to the hub where you get to learn new scrolls and boons. And before you jump into the next quest, you can choose your loadout of items you have in your chest.

Overall I’m really enjoying it and would recommend the game, for now if you are waiting on the fixes, they are planned upcoming Friday the 4th of September, so keep an eye out on their Twitter page or join their Discord!
